Gaultier does Degas

I got home from work, feeling a little stressed, and was happy to have a package from Sheila with the fabulous lime green pants, a very cool ring, and a comic book made by her friend. Thanks S! Perfect timing. You're awesome!

Here's the skirt that I gave a sneak peek to earlier last week.

Jacket: Lilith
Shirt: Joe Fresh
Skirt: Jean-Paul Gaultier (thrifted)
Shoes: Messeca (from Capezio in Toronto)

Business on top, party on the bottom!

I love Lilith's clothing and I got this jacket on eBay for $51.00. That's an insane price. And I thrifted this skirt!  Who could possibly have given it up?

The skirt is so pretty - ballet dancers! I used to take ballet lessons and had dreams of trying out for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet but that was never going to become reality.

I finally saw a ballet, La Sylphide, in Washington DC in 2009 and it was amazing. Brought tears to my eyes because it was so beautiful.

Here's the back so you can see stripes going in different directions.

I bought these shoes in Toronto last weekend from Capezio. They are a brand that I'd never heard of before but I was drawn to the pointy toe, straps, velvet fabric and the unique piece on the heel.

Today my coworker said that these were less extravagant than my usual shoes. I think they are pretty funky myself.

Pointy!

And you may ask yourself, why is your dress so large?

Thank you all for your kind words about my sweet Jetta girl. We're missing her terribly. =(

I found this Marimekko dress at my favourite used clothing store, Elsie's, last Friday. Unfortunately, I was in a hurry so I didn't take the time to try it on. If I had, I would have realized that it's quite big.

Dress: Marimekko
Necklace: Meow
Belt: H&M
Shoes: Marc from Kick Ass Shoes

(Isn't Kick Ass Shoes the best name for a store?)

This dress has been re-hemmed so I'm guessing it used to be a lot longer. I think this length is fine but the width is a bit too big on me. You can really tell by looking at the extra fabric under the arm.

I could probably have it altered but I'm not sure I like it enough to bother.

I do love the really big pockets on the front though. Maybe I can try to do a slap-dash alteration.

I added this Edgar Allan Poe brooch because Edgar's greenish hue matches the dress quite well.

Black and Burgundy

Happy April! Today's weather was totally weird. It was overcast, then it snowed, then it was sunny, then it was raining. I guess that's why people say "If you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes". April is the month where most people here hope that it will start to get warm but it rarely does. It just hovers around the 8C mark and everyone start going crazy.

After taking these pictures, I realized that my hair matched my clothes.

Jacket: Filene's Basement in DC
Dress: Shabby Apple via Pretty Things Boutique
Belt: Smart Set
Boots: Fluevog Baroque | Velazquez

I saw that Sheila had bought these boots in Vancouver and I remembered that I hadn't worn mine for an outfit photo. I wasn't surprised that she had bought them since we seem to have the same taste in everything.

Here's the outfit sans jacket. This dress is so comfortable and the jersey fabric is very soft, but I fear it will not stand the test of time. The quality isn't so great so I'll have to clean it carefully to keep it looking good as long as possible.

Today while I was at work, the woman who owns my favourite used clothing store (Elsie's) called me to say she had received a few Smoking Lily items. So I went in and left with a dress, a blouse and a little zippered purse. I may regret asking her to call me to tell me about these acquisitions.

The blouse is a very bright emerald green that I'm super stoked about! I'll probably wear it tomorrow.
