Unintentional disappearance

The blogging? I haven't feel feeling it lately. I feel like its forced - like I have nothing to say so I'm just rambling to fill in space. My life has fallen into a routine. Walk to work, work, walk home, either make dinner or go out to eat, flick through TV channels, go to bed around 9:30. Rinse, repeat.

I did remember to take photos most days this week though.

Tuesday, June 18

Excuse the goofy look on my face. I was really struggling to get these photos in a poorly lit boardroom. I couldn't use the kitchen because someone was having lunch. At 4pm!? Who does that?

Dress: Modcloth (apparently never worn on the blog before)
Leggings: Target
Shoes: Chelsea Crew

Look'it me being saucy and sitting on the furniture! Bad bureaucrat, BAD!

I bought these shoes at a store called Meg. They have very pretty and unique clothing. I covet many things but have not yet made any purchases other than these shoes and a pair of earrings. Maybe soon.

Cardigan: Target
Dress: Vintage (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Bellevues | Laura Evans (last worn here)

I had to walk a few blocks to a meeting and these shoes were so very comfortable. I get lots of complements on them. For both those reasons these were a good purchase.

I like the cutout at the top of the dress. Makes it less matronly and more "pizzazzy" as it were.

Ooops. Cut off my head.

I wearing a Duran Duran pin, a Batman pin, and a label from a label maker that says "I AM A WINNER". Long story.

Cardigan: Value Village
Dress: Le Chateau
Shoes: Fluevog Wonders | Ayers (last worn here)

I bought this dress on a whim because I liked the colour, stripes, handkerchief hemline, and straps. It seemed like the perfect dress for hot, humid weather.

It does have a lot of fabric to it though so it's a little heavy but seeing it in pictures I think it was a good purchase.

And it is visually interesting with the stripes going in all directions. Yes, this was a good buy.

So I received the Traveling Yellow Skirt from Shelley this week. I'm trying to think of the best way to style and photograph it. I've got a few ideas so I should be done with it soon and passing it along.

To people contacting me asking for it, it's already spoken for after me. A list is soon going to be created since it has suddenly become a hot ticket item. I'll post a link to that information once it's been officially announced.

Stripey goodness

Today was my last day as "interim Acting Director" so I dressed the part. Oh no, I didn't.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: anthropologie
Belt: Le Chateau
Tights: Hue
Boots: Fluevog Radios | ARD (last worn here)

Last time I wore these tights was with almost the exact same outfit. Only difference is the dress. I wanted to wear the orange eShakti dress but it really needs to be ironed so I threw on this thing.

Not really feeling this.

Good enough for a Friday!

Have a good weekend everyone. In most parts of Canada, Monday is a holiday but not here. Poop!

The Hardest Button to Button

I've recently found myself car-less. Wha-wha-wha....yes I know this is 100% a first world problem, but I'm finding it hard to adjust. I'm committed to giving living without a car at least a month before I even consider whether I should get a new car. The telling point will be the first time I go grocery shopping. Keep me in your thoughts.

Luckily I'm cute as hell!

Cardigan: from Zellers
Dress: Joe Fresh (last worn here)
Belt: Le Chateau
Boots: Anthropologie (last worn here)

Last time I wore this dress with burgundy accessories, going outside my comfort zone. Today I just stuck with the black, green and yellow motif.

Today was one of those days where people were really trying my patience. Luckily I have good coworkers and friends who can talk me down when I'm contemplating jumping off the building.

And with that, let's turn out back on this perfectly frustrating day.

Army majors pull a mean cool truth they're lying by the swimming pool

I have to start this post with the shoes because of the marvelous fabulousity of them.  Even their name is fabulous.

Fluevog Queen Transcendent Jody Elizabeth

Is that heel not a work of art?  Looks like furniture!

That's it. I'm done. I don't need to buy anymore shoes ever again. Ever. *

When I saw these in the Fluevog Fall preview I swooned. It was love. We were meant to be.

What does one wear with such beautiful things?

Jacket: Le Chateau outlet store
T-shirt: ?
Skants: Melow par Melissa Bolduc from the Workshop

I call these "pants" SKANTS (skirt/pants). I've worn these 4 times since buying them and I love them! They are short pants with two overlaying panels that are like a skirt.

I like how the split in the jacket is similar to the shape made by the overlapping skirt parts.

Sorry about the bitch face. I had a bit of a frustrating day.

And the jacket has a military feel. I only paid $20 for it - well worth it I think. It's starting to get cooler now so this jacket will probably be worn a lot this winter.

The truth isn't black and white. Alone we live and die

It's a rainy, yucky day in Nova Scotia. So black was the order of the day.

Dress: Bryn Walker from Cha Cha Palace in Winnipeg
Belt: Le Chateau
Slip: ?
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impel

This dress has an Asian/Kimono feel because it has inset pieces that are kind of hard to explain.

I'm trying to show the squareness of the bottom of the dress, not entirely successfully.

The fabric is quite thick and it contains metal threads so that the piece holds its shape. It's really quite a unique thing.

Most of my shoes are at my husband's studio so you'll be seeing these a lot until get them back.

I'm wearing my scissors necklace and this cute dog/cat charm. SMOOCH!

I must have flowers in my brain

Today was a red kind of day - but to me everyday is a red kind of day.

Jacket: Le Chateau
Shirt: Joe Fresh
Tie: from another blouse
Skirt: eShakti (last worn here preblog)
Shoes: Fluevog Together Hi | Benatar (last worn here)

We were having a baby shower at work today since two of my coworkers are having babies in the next two months. I brought a salad and I almost covered my entire outfit in salad dressing. Fortunately I saved this skirt from certain death by Newman's Own Oil and Vinegar.

What's not to love about this skirt? Knee length? CHECK
Pockets? CHECK
Gold flowers? CHECK
Bright Colour? CHECK!!

I get quite a few complements when I wear this skirt.

Adding this tartan tie was a last minute decision and I'm not sure if it was a good addition or not.

And of course super fun Fluevogs.

Yesterday, someone asked if I could show some photos of my tattoos so here they are.

I didn't get my first tattoo until I was 35 and it was just a small tattoo that says k∞tog (knit infinity together). Everyone thinks it says koofog or kootog because it wasn't done very well.

My second tattoo I got in 2008 when I was 37.  It's a mouse knitting a sock which is a picture I found on a necklace that I bought on etsy.

This is on the underside of my right forearm.

Then in 2009 my friend's boyfriend designed this tattoo for me.

I love animals and birds so here we have a crow, mouse and squirrel sitting on a branch. This needs some touch ups but it's fine for now.

Then in 2011 I made an appointment to see Sunny Buick in Paris to get a tattoo. I was going to be there on vacation and having seen her work on other people I knew it would be a worthwhile venture.  I had asked her to design something with a vintage shoe and a cat. This is one of the designs that she proposed. I love it and after she actually tattooed it in colour I was pretty blown away.

I tell people that the "f" design on the boot is for "France" but if you know anything about me you'll know it really stands for "Fluevog".

After I got this last one, which hurt almost more than I could stand, I said I'd never get another one, but I'm feeling the itch again.

Most people don't comment on my tattoos but I do get the odd question. Usually the same questions that all tattooed people get like "did it hurt?" (yes), "what do your parents think?" (they hate them but I'm 41 so tough luck), "what will you do when you're old?" (I'll be one of many people tattooed when I'm old since most people I know have at least one).  Today I saw this video of a school teacher doing a monologue about her tattoos. It's worth sharing....

When I run out of blue give me red instead

Today it was announced that Duran Duran was going to represent English musical talent at the beginning of the Summer Olympics in London. What I wouldn't give to be there! Whoot! I also learned that the band Snow Patrol is from Northern Ireland and not from British Columbia. Why did I ever think that? Probably some mountain/skiing/avalanche thinking.

Whenever I put this dress on I think "Why don't I wear this more often?"  Then after a few hours, I start to get itchy because the dress is 100% wool and it's unlined. I need to remember to wear a camisole underneath it.

Jacket: Le Chateau
Dress: Diane Von Furstenburg from NYC
Shoes: Fluevog Together Hi | Benatar

As with many dresses, the waist sits about 5 cms above my natural waist so I do find that a little annoying. But despite that and the itchiness I won't be giving it up. It has pocket and it's twirly!

I think that the next time I wear this dress I will wear less chunky shoes; maybe wear my Franco Sarto shoes or my new Desigual shoes.

I've been thinking about some of the new fashions that are trendy this spring and there's a few that I won't be adopting. These include:

1. Boat Shoes/Topsiders - a staple in the 1980s with any good Preppy teens wardrobe along with Bass Weejun Penny Loafers and Tretorn sneakers.
2. Patterned pants - especially ones made of floral fabric (tartan and stripes are the exceptions)
3. Fancy nail polish designs - I can't stand the way nail polish feels on my finger nails. I do think the designs look pretty though.
4. Mega Platforms - because of the ugly. (this also includes about 99% of Jeffrey Campbell's designs)

One I thought I'd stay away from is the resurgence of neon but I find myself really wanting a pair of neon heels.

Any trends you will be avoiding?

TWILLY!
