Meow!

Howdie internets. How's it going? I had a nice weekend away and now I'm back into the old routine. Work, dinner, sleep, repeat. I did have one little glitch along the way. About 3 years ago, when I went off the birth control pill, I finally learned the reality that is P....M....S. I had a little crying episode and melt down Monday night. Then as quickly as it came on, it disappeared. Gotta say, it's pretty horrible!

Despite that, I enjoy being a girl...

I enjoy being a girl because I like wearing pretty things.

August 6

Dress: eShakti (last worn here)
Shoes: Irregular Choice (from trashydiva.com)

Here's my new hair, sans red. It's been 6 years since I had it put in. And the two times I had red put in here in Toronto it just faded to pink. So until I find a place who can do it properly I'll just stick with one colour.

Unfortunately this is BLACK, not dark brown. *sigh*

This weekend I went to see a production of The Mikado. I've seen it a bunch of times and can practically sing along. Anyway, the actress who played Katisha was Jean Stilwell who is a Canadian opera singer. Right now her hair is very similar to mine.

The next day, I went to another concert and a woman approached me and said "You sang beautifully last night". HAHAHAHHA! Totally awesome.

You know what else is awesome?

Kitty cat shoes!!! MEOW!!  Sometimes Irregular Choice shoes can be over the top but I couldn't resist these.

And I couldn't resist this dress on Modcloth.

August 7

With my love of red, you'd think I've had a gazillion red dresses but I really only have 1 and it's wool.

Dress: Folter from Modcloth
Shoes: Miss L Fire (last worn here)

It's a very comfortable dress but again, my stupid long waist means that the waist of the dress sits at the bottom of my ribs. Not totally annoying though.

Hangs pretty well, no?

The "piece de resistance" was really this bracelet, also from Modcloth.

Spooky! I wore my skull earrings too.

I'm watching the movie Brave right now...see you tomorrow.

Confetti dress

This is the second dress that I ordered with my gift card from eShakti. It's called the confetti dress which is a pretty apt name.

Dress: eShakti
Shoes: Miss L Fire (last worn here)

The dress is nice but the shoes really outshine everything else. Or maybe the tights. I was walking down Queen St at lunch time and two women in a restaurant pointed at my feet so I stopped and did a little "ta da!" pose for them. Shameless!

I'm back in boardroom 3A today with my map since the lunchroom has apparently become a hotspot for eating and crafting. Don't they know I need that space for my photo shoots?? I'm going to start blocking the room off as a space for important meetings in the late afternoon.

Currently watching the hockey game and the Leafs are beating the Bruins 4-1 in game 7. Totally unexpected! The Leafs haven't been in the playoffs in 9 years and weren't expected to make it past the first playoff round. There's still 11 minutes left in the game so I hope they can hold on and eek out this win!

Yeah, Poppies

Tonight I made a new friend. It's name is "rubber mallet". It's a long boring story but suffice it to say, I ended up buying a mallet and making a crappy clothing rack my bitch. And the lesson learned today is "don't buy anything if it doesn't fasten together with screws or bolts" if you want it to stay together longer than 10 minutes. Also, don't expect a $20 clothing rack to hold an excessive amount of clothing.

Moving on!

A few months ago, eShakti asked me to participate on their customer panel where I would need to look at pictures of new designs and answer questions about them. I was pretty happy to do it and it was kind of fun. In return, they sent me $100 gift certificate.  Here's one of the dresses I got.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: eShakti
Shoes: Franco Sarto (last worn April 26)

It's just a plain shift dress but I liked the poppy embroidery and it has pockets. Pockets are happy making.

I took these photos in Boardroom 3B because my secret lunchroom seems to be being used more often. Nice map of Toronto behind me, eh?  The sticky notes have the first 3 digits of postal codes on them. Not sure why.

I'm wearing beige fishnets. My legs are still kind of bruised from moving boxes and furniture around my apartment so the fishnets provide a little bit of coverage without being too warm. I tend to bruise very easily. You just have to look at me harshly and I get a bruise. Oh, so sensitive.

I was in Ottawa yesterday with my new bosses so I didn't feel comfortable enough to take photos. I wore this dress, this jacket, and these shoes so you can image it for yourself.

The flowers that bloom in the spring, Tra La!

Ok, I'm going to admit it. I'm sick. I'm pretty sure I have a rotten cold. You can see it on my face in this outfit photo. I stopped on my way home and bombed it with Pho and sriracha and now I'm drinking green tea. I hope it doesn't last long. Plus, who wants to call in sick on their 8th day at a new job?

T-shirt: American Apparel
Skirt: eShakti (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Gateways | Brandenburg Light

Yeah yeah, another pair of shoes. Sue me. I'm sick. They're medicine.

I walked all the way to work in these and my feet are miraculously unharmed.

ERMAGHERD look at the JF and the crown on the toes. *swoon* I fall down with love for them.

I need to get red laces for them though.

Ok, I'm going to bed. At 6:30. Ugh!

If you can't beat them, go completely overboard

Ah Valentine's day.

As a married person, Valentine's Day was an annoyance. As a separated person, it's a pretty good reason to hit the bottle. Luckily, I have dumped all the alcohol out. Except for the beer I bought tonight at the mall. But that's another story.

Anticipating that today was going to be a difficult one, I decided to just go totally bonkers with the red clothing.

Look at me embracing the day that is named after Saint Valentine. Even making a cute heart with my hands.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: Eshakti (last worn here)
Tights: ?
Shoes: Franco Sarto (last worn here)

Red hair, red lips, red cardigan, red dress, red shoes. I had put on red tights but it was just too much. Even for me, who loves red.

and a red vintage slip!

And a pin with a skull on it. To demonstrate my true feelings about this day. o_O

Here's an outtake. I was trying to take the above photo when my coworker came into the kitchen. This is me covering my tracks and pretending that I wasn't doing anything. I like the look on my face.

I'm currently sitting on my couch, with my fireplace on, my cat at my side, waiting for my Swiss Chalet dinner to arrive. Including apple pie. I'm making the best of things.

My coworkers were so very good to me today. As difficult as things can often be at work, it's much easier to go in every day when you work with good people.

So good day to you Valentine's day. I said GOOD DAY!

High saturation

Saturday has been pretty lovely so far, despite the fact that I haven't done much other than get a prescription renewed, return my refundables for money, reinflate my tires and take my friend out for breakfast because she's had a bad week. Oh, and I also went to Victoria's Secret to buy another bra in a style that I quite like.

Strangely I was the most dressed up person at the mall. Most people were wearing regular weekend jeans and sweaters but I also saw way to many sweatpants and uggs or flannel pajama bottoms and uggs. WHY?? WHY?

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutique
Dress: Eshakti (last worn in my first post)
Tights: H&M
Boots: Fluevog Radios | ARD
(last worn here)

New hair - or really back to my old hair. The red seems much more visible now on the left side. I think that's because my bangs are a little thicker.

Off to have a nap and then out for dinner at a friend's house. Going to play some games. Fun!

Paranoia, the only valid point of view

This combination was inspired by this outfit from Amber. I really liked how the layering created blocks of colour.

Cardigan: Pretty Things Boutiqu
Dress: Soda Fountain Dress from ModCloth
Belt: ?
Skirt: eShakti (last worn here)
Shoes: Fluevog Presence | Impulse (last worn here)

If you follow the link to when I last wore the skirt, you'll see that there is a design of shoes above the red band (yes it's red, not orange). This dress covered it up pretty perfectly.

I didn't know my necklace as all askew when I took the photo. Ooops.

Sans cardigan.

I was trying to stand differently but I mostly just succeeded in looking awkward.

I'm taking the day off tomorrow because I'm pretty burnt out and I have some things to deal with including figuring out what to wear to a wedding on Saturday.

I must have flowers in my brain

Today was a red kind of day - but to me everyday is a red kind of day.

Jacket: Le Chateau
Shirt: Joe Fresh
Tie: from another blouse
Skirt: eShakti (last worn here preblog)
Shoes: Fluevog Together Hi | Benatar (last worn here)

We were having a baby shower at work today since two of my coworkers are having babies in the next two months. I brought a salad and I almost covered my entire outfit in salad dressing. Fortunately I saved this skirt from certain death by Newman's Own Oil and Vinegar.

What's not to love about this skirt? Knee length? CHECK
Pockets? CHECK
Gold flowers? CHECK
Bright Colour? CHECK!!

I get quite a few complements when I wear this skirt.

Adding this tartan tie was a last minute decision and I'm not sure if it was a good addition or not.

And of course super fun Fluevogs.

Yesterday, someone asked if I could show some photos of my tattoos so here they are.

I didn't get my first tattoo until I was 35 and it was just a small tattoo that says k∞tog (knit infinity together). Everyone thinks it says koofog or kootog because it wasn't done very well.

My second tattoo I got in 2008 when I was 37.  It's a mouse knitting a sock which is a picture I found on a necklace that I bought on etsy.

This is on the underside of my right forearm.

Then in 2009 my friend's boyfriend designed this tattoo for me.

I love animals and birds so here we have a crow, mouse and squirrel sitting on a branch. This needs some touch ups but it's fine for now.

Then in 2011 I made an appointment to see Sunny Buick in Paris to get a tattoo. I was going to be there on vacation and having seen her work on other people I knew it would be a worthwhile venture.  I had asked her to design something with a vintage shoe and a cat. This is one of the designs that she proposed. I love it and after she actually tattooed it in colour I was pretty blown away.

I tell people that the "f" design on the boot is for "France" but if you know anything about me you'll know it really stands for "Fluevog".

After I got this last one, which hurt almost more than I could stand, I said I'd never get another one, but I'm feeling the itch again.

Most people don't comment on my tattoos but I do get the odd question. Usually the same questions that all tattooed people get like "did it hurt?" (yes), "what do your parents think?" (they hate them but I'm 41 so tough luck), "what will you do when you're old?" (I'll be one of many people tattooed when I'm old since most people I know have at least one).  Today I saw this video of a school teacher doing a monologue about her tattoos. It's worth sharing....

Up, up and away

A local weekly paper is doing a profile of some of the city's "fashion bloggers" next week and I was asked to participate. I was originally hesitant since I haven't told many of my coworkers about my blog but then I thought, "what do I have to hide?" They see me everyday in these outfits so it's not like that's a secret.

The paper asked me for a head shot so I asked my husband if he'd help me out. So yesterday we went to his studio and took a few shots.

Here's one of the ones I liked but wasn't selected. Ultimately, I picked one where I'm not wearing this fascinator because I think they'd end up cropping it out but I thought it was too cute not to share.

He didn't retouch this one but he did for the one I submitted.

The dress is from eShakti. I don't remember who made the fascinator - we got it at a "Gothic Christmas" craft sale last November.

Happy Sunday.

Devil with a blue dress on

Today I felt like a whirling dervish all day and finally I realized it's because I hadn't taken some of my medications for two days. I rectified that right away but in the meantime I had amazing mood swings, I couldn't concentrate and I even took a picture of myself sitting under my desk. Admit it though, who hasn't wanted to do that? (I can't believe I'm sharing this but what the hell.)

I'm feeling much better now, thank you very much.

Blouse: Club Monaco
Dress: eShakti
Tights: Hue
Shoes: Marc O'Polo (from Frankfurt, Germany)

The best things about this dress are 1) it has pockets and 2) the cross front on the bodice has a button on it to keep it in place and 3) the empire waist.

I'm not sure what my position is on maxi-dresses. I find them difficult to walk in but I also think they are comfortable and kind of cozy. It's still cold here so I'm still keeping warmth in mind when picking outfits.

I'm even still wearing tights. If I have to wear tights then I might as well wear my funkiest.

Tomorrow is supposed to be 15C and sunny but that's not quite warm enough for me to risk bare legs.

I bought these shoes in Frankfurt a few years ago because I had been walking around all day and my feet were killing me. We had just finished a cruise (which was a disaster but that's a story for another day) and I had only brought TWO PAIRS OF SHOES for the entire trip, neither of which were very comfortable.

These are probably the plainest shoes I own. Plain, grey flats. Yawn!

Hey Everybody! It's time for the meeeeeeting!

Pyjama dress 2: Electric Boogaloo

She - Wore - LEMON....

Sweater: Club Monaco
Scarf: came with a hank of hand dyed yarn by knitivity.com
Dress: eShakti
Shoes: Hush Puppies from beyondtherack.com

Got these shoes from Beyond the Rack - one of those discount designer/name brand clothing websites. They were super discounted so I thought, what the hell. And they're yellow.

Since I tend toward outfits that are "matchy matchy" I decided to wear them with my yellow pyjama dress.

It was a grey, foggy day here so this was a nice sunny choice. It's not the most inspired outfit ever though.

Comfy shoes, pyjama dress = slightly yawn?

This is probably something that Captain Obvious would say but these also look good with jeans.

In other news, I'm so happy that I'm going to be getting my haircut this week. My "Louise Brooks" style is starting to look more "Little Lord Fauntleroy".
